Training
The Summit Metro Crash Response Team represents literally thousands of hours of advanced training in its membership. Our officers have attended internationally recognized organizations such as the
Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, the
Institute of Police Technology and Management,
Recently, a local business offered to allow us to use their large parking area to stage multiple crash scenarios and to gather our members for a full day of "hands on" practical training. Three stations allowed us to train and work together on areas such as:
Laser Measuring and mapping
Crash Scene Photography
Evidence identification and preservation
Electronic technology and Event Data recovery
Scene analysis
Roadway and tire mark analysis
Always looking to advanced technology and updated methodology, SMcRT was joined by The Summit County Engineers Office who also participated and demonstrated GPS mapping for Crash scenes, which the team is currently investigating for potential use in future crash investigations. A side by side comparison of a crash scene using our "Total Station" laser mapping tool and the Engineers Office GPS tool was conducted and overlays of both maps will be examined to determine accuracy and ease of use.
Ongoing training is essential in the fields surrounding Crash Investigations and SMcRT is committed to working with local, state and national resources to maintain and improve our knowledge and skill base.
Check back for further updates on our training efforts.
